Yes , it's a common misconception that we must abstain from sex for spiritual development. Why is such misconception so common in society like Hinduism? That is because mainstream Vedic Hinduism is of satvik marg hence you hear of Bramhan and brahmacharya abstaining of sex etc. While tantra uses sex towards liberation. Shiv shakti Union is the birth of cosmos. There are many kula or branch of sadhana like vam marg , Lakulesh , cheenachar etc that advocates right knowledge of sex . example Khajuraho temples.
I've already explained what is satvik , rajasic and tamasic path . That is the most fundamental aspect of our sanatan / Siddha Dharm .
when we follow satvik marg it is most difficult and yet the most easiest as it doesn't trap you in many aspects of Maya that can lead to addiction etc . Whereas as if u do not follow the vam marg properly it will surely devolve you if you do not have a right guru. Hence we need the persons chitt or chetana to be very evolved to practice these path of liberation. honestly it is the best practice for a grihasth person .
However our dharm does not allow these kaliyug adharmic or debauchry like tinder casual sex, multiple partners , cheating of partners, unnatural sex with animals and children or homosexuality.
Hence we must find a great guru like Mahadiddh Ishaputra who can impart dharmik methods and principles related to sex that will not devolve humans to perform sins and lead them towards Kaliyug debauchary .
