NavDurga Significance

Many have asked me the significance of Nav Durga when the battle is fought by Chandika Devi , Chamunda devi , Kali devi , Matrika devi etc then how does the 9 Durga have so much importance why do we hail their importance when their appearance is fleeting in the battle against Mahishasura , Shumb Nishumb , chand mund etc .. ? The answer is here in this post below.

Navadurga are manifestation of Devi Parvati and her many forms that she took as a result of rebirth after she left the body of Sati . It is her journey to become the pinnacle of perfection having all the Siddhis or attributes of Devi Adi shakti or Yog Maya who is the Shakti of Shiva who adorns 64 Kala himself.

  1. Shailputri

In her second birth she takes the form as shailaputri the daughter of Himalaya king . Shaila -stone , mountain putri - daughter. She has the ability to break our stone like heart, mind and stone like bondages that form our Jaddta or inertness and tamas

2- Bramhacharini

After being born as Shailputri she performed intense sadhana to win the heart of shiva. This austerity is our inspiration to move from our stone like jadd(bondages) towards the light of love and Chetana. Bramah- chetana /Shiva

charini- lifestyle of penance to acquire satvik qualities in us to walk the path towards Bramhan

3- Chandraghanta

When she was finally accepted by lord Shiva to become his wife, lord shiva adorned all the scary atributes when he came to the wedding ceremony. Devi went to him and pleaded him to come as Chandrashekhar and she took the form of Chandraghanta . She grants anyone the qualities of immortality , peace, alertness, awareness, beauty , calmness, etc

4- Kushmanda

Devi Parvati and Lord Shiva united to destroy a demon. Here she becomes the mother Goddess of the whole universe. Ku- negativity , shma- warmth of sun, anda- universe.

she holds us all in her cosmic womb providing us nourishment , knowledge towards the path of Siddhatva

5- Skandamata

Then Union of Parvati and Shiva was to destroy a demon tarakasura by giving birth to Skanda or Bhagwan Kartikeya . Skanda is the commander of Devata army and she thus becomes the mother of the Devatas army. She inspires and protects us with knowledge , bravery , warrior qualities , fight for dharm.

6 - Katyayani

Devi Parvati having fulfilled her duty and is now evolved to become a goddess who protects all of her creation.

During the great battle of Shumba and Nishumb the demons after seeing the army of Devi strikes Katyayni first. She is a goddess of Warrior . She firmly instills the quality of Justice, dharma , valor and thoughts to protect the good over evil

7- Kaalratri

War is always tamasic and Devi Parvati becomes the darkest aspect of her journey and creation. She signifies death and darkness , ignorance.

she delivers anyone from ignorance and fear. And one becomes fearless with her worship .

She holds the vajra -backbone of Maharishi Dadhichi showing she holds the secret towards Vajra mandal.

8- Maha Gowri

After the battle she goes back to being the wife of Lord Shiva . Here she embodies best feminine qualities and maintains the divinity in the universe . She is depicted in white because she stands for truth, dharma , purity and all satvik qualities not because she was dark and she washed off her dark skin . Tantra is much deeper than that

9 - Siddhidhatri

Now , from Maha Gauri she moves towards completeness . She embodies all the 64 Siddhis as she is the shakti of Shiva who adorns all the 64 kala . She is now Adi para shakti or Mahalakshmi. She bestows anyone with Siddhatva and is also known as Goddess of Siddhas.

This is the journey of Devi Parvati who is Devi Mahamaya , yog maya adi para shakti and Devi Durga herself. The Vaam ang or left side of Lord Shiva . Next time anyone tells Devi Durga doesn't have a male counter part please tell them she is the manifestation of Parvati Devi who is Shiva bharya or wife or Shakti of lord Shiva .

All my knowledge is due to my Guru Kaulantak Nath Ishaputra who inspired me to research on Durga sapthshati to understand the codes in the appearance of Devi and its significance.
