The greatest and deepest love story in the world is that of Shiva and Parvati [ Sati] !
Sati loves Shiva from time immemorial. She does his sadhana since childhood. But her father Daksha thinks he is just a poor yogi with no wealth and means and is not good enough for his beautiful daughter. He is Maha Vishnus bhakth or devotee. So he arranges a swayamvar for her. She sees all her var or prospective husband. She throws the garland and it lands on Shiva in kailash. He comes down from kailash with all his gan and marries her.
A princess leaves the comfort of her plush materialistic life to be with her partner who does not care about any material wealth. It teaches woman something. Choose your husband for his knowledge and spiritual wealth and prowess not just material wealth and status.
After Sati dies, Shiva is overcome with grief . So deep the grief and love is he is in deep viraha waiting for her to be reborn. And in vairagya total dispassion and no interest in the world he wished into existence.
When she comes back as Parvati into his life he tests her many times before accepting her. He sends lord Indra to win her but she turns him down as she tells him she is not interested in material wealth and her focus is Shiva.
A female sadhak will always have a choice of heaven with all comfort and luxury or a path of thorns where end goal is union with Her Shiva.
After a lot of sadhana , where devi Parvati was shankari . Totally hopelessly dying in vain and in Viraha for Shiva. Lord Vishnu convinces Shiva to accept her. Devi Parvati and Lord Shiva get married.
Lord Shiva teaches Devi Parvati all the sacred knowledge written in Agam and Nigam. And many times she dies because she doesn't pay attention to the instruction given by her Guru ,her Husband.
One day she asks him why does he wear a necklace of bones? He says Each time she dies ,he collects her bone as a reminder and wears it around his neck. That deep his love is. That he waits for her and pushes her , elevates her from woman ensnared by her own maya to a Goddess who is Siddhachitth
